Four unforgettable performances, three cities, eight musicians, and seven cellos sharing the stage for the first time in Asia—our series from May 1–4 has come to a heartwarming close. 🧡

French cello virtuoso Gautier Capuçon returned to Taiwan with a series of concerts, joined by his dear friend and collaborator of 25 years, pianist Frank Braley, as well as Capucelli, the cello septet he personally founded and leads.

From all five of Beethoven’s cello sonatas—25 movements in total—to Capucelli’s thrilling journey across classical, tango, and contemporary works, this four-concert series brought together 33 stunning pieces and created a deeply moving musical experience. 💫

📍Final Concert – Hsinchu City Cultural Affairs Bureau Performance Hall

The first half featured Capuçon and Braley performing Beethoven’s Sonata No. 4 and No. 3 for piano and cello—one youthful and full of spirit, the other introspective and profound, capturing Beethoven’s transition from his middle to late creative period.

They also gave heartfelt performances of Massenet’s Méditation from Thaïs and Saint-Saëns’ The Swan, where Capuçon’s tone sang like a voice, while Braley’s delicate accompaniment painted an atmosphere of poetic warmth.

In the second half, the seven cellists of Capucelli took the stage with a vibrant program including Piazzolla’s Muerte de Ángel, Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Flowers, and Ravel’s Boléro. From layered low-registers to soaring melodies, the cello’s full expressive range resonated through the hall, seamlessly bridging genres and eras.

💬 Gautier Capuçon mentioned:

“These past few days, I’ve been deeply moved. The audience’s enthusiasm was incredible—and to see so many young people come into the concert hall, that was truly a wonderful surprise!”

Nearly 1,200 youth and their families participated through the “1+1 Youth Music Program,” filling the halls with smiles, applause, and focused attention—the most heartfelt response to music one could imagine.

On stage, they exchanged glances and smiles, listening deeply to one another. Every phrase was filled with trust and shared joy, allowing the audience to feel it too: ✨ this is what connection through music looks like—and a glimpse into the future we’re building.

💫 Thank you for being part of this journey.

Today’s concert in Hsinchu marked the final note of an extraordinary series—one that not only showcased Capuçon’s artistic vision but also his genuine dedication to the future of music: nurturing the next generation of musicians and making classical music more accessible, more alive.

Capuçon and Capucelli will continue their global tour—but Taiwan has already left a lasting impression in their hearts.

We’ll carry the memories of this sound journey forward, believing always that:

🎶 Music connects us—it transcends language, culture, and generations.

💡Special thanks to the TSMC Education and Culture Foundation for their invaluable support in making this beautiful project a reality.

Hsinchu, a city known for innovation and technology, welcomed world-class classical music with extraordinary grace and enthusiasm. The rapt attention, the passionate applause—it was unforgettable.
